    Police Warning - Courier Scan

    November

Police are warning people to be on their guards after a Stirling woman was the victim of a scam.

The 60-year-old woman a contacted by phone on Saturday, 7 November, and told there was suspicious activity on her bank account.  The caller advised a police officer would attend to collect the woman’s bank card, and a man arrived a short time later to do so. The card was returned several hours later.

After several further contact attempts were made, the victim visited her bank where concerns were raised and police were contacted.

Constable Bryan Mackie from Stirling Police Station said: “Luckily banking protocols prevented any money from being taken from the woman’s account, however it is important people are aware of this scam and avoid falling victim.

“The man who collected the woman’s bank card is believed to have shown some form of identification, however a police officer would never arrive to take your bank card.  We would urge anyone who is contacted by their bank, and is concerned regarding the legitimacy of the call, to hang up and call back the bank’s main number to confirm who they are speaking with.

“Anyone with information or concerns about fraudulent activity can contact Police Scotland through 101.”

    Defibrillators - Living Advent Calendar

    Winter

Last year more than 40 houses in Riverside were lit up for the Living Advent Calendar. The idea is to celebrate together as a community by lighting and decorating windows in the depth of winter.

It’d be lovely to have more lighted windows throughout December.

Why not join in? You decorate your window and display your number. And we are again asking for a small donation to our defibrillator via JustGiving.

Let Fiona Dyet know by the 6th of November if you'd like to light up your window..  Contact Fiona on 0782 888 2077 or email fiona_dyet@hotmail.com

Stirling Council - Spaces For People

    5th - 26th October

Stirling Council is seeking your views on where temporary infrastructure to support walking, cycling and wheeling is required during the pandemic.

In May 2020 in partnership with the Scottish Government, Sustrans announced a £30million fund ‘Spaces for People’ to aid the Local Government response to the current public health emergency. The fund is aimed at making journeys safer for cycling, walking and wheeling during and in recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in our public spaces such as town centres through the delivery of temporary infrastructure improvements to support active travel.

Stirling Council successfully received £513,000 from the Sustrans Spaces for People fund. This fund should be used to protect public health in areas where footfall is particularly high, such as core retail areas. This can also aid Stirling’s economic recovery in the retail and tourism sectors whilst helping minimise the risk for community transmission.

A period of consultation which will run between the 5th of October and run until the 26th of October - find more information from Stirling Council here and from Sustrans here.

    Electric Car Charging Bays

    TBD

Riverside has been selected  to trial chargers that are powered via the street lighting network.

The bollards plug into the street light system but not the lamp posts themselves as they are only on for a limited time.  Instead these bollards will take advantage of the network and be place on the roadside.

The bollards take up considerably less footpath space compared to most traditional charging units and have been very successful in London.  These will be placed on Rosebery Terrace and Miller Place and will be the first in Scotland.

If you have any question please get in touch - you can find out further information here.

Walkthrough COVID Testing Facilities - Forthside

    7th Oct
    Onwards

Scottish Government and Forth Valley Public Health (FVPH) are keen to have a walk-through testing facility within Stirling to support both the University community and the wider Stirling Community, particularly those who may not have access to a vehicle to attend MTU venues.

Ladysneuk Road From the junction with the A907, Alloa Road in a general southerly direction to a termination point at the Tower in Cambuskenneth, a distance of 1557 metres or thereby, for a period of up to 18 months, from 10-8-20 as part of a Covid-19 Project.

    Seagulls

    July '20

We have had a few reports from our community about aggressive and territorial seagulls around Riverside.  This is causing people to fear walking in certain streets and is afar from ideal situation.

We have contact Stirling Council regarding this and await their advice.

Seagulls are also considered protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which makes the managing of these birds more complicated.  For further information on this, the RSPB has more information here.

    Stevenson Bridge - Planned Renovations

    July '20

Temporary pedestrian guardrails are currently in place at the bridge, and permanent pedestrian guardrails will be installed using a temporary lane closure, between the hours of 9:30 am and 2:30 pm at some point during the week commencing the 20th July.

For further details on all road closures, including detour maps click here.

Extensive work is needed on this bridge to ensure that it is fit and safe for purpose.  Due to the complexity of working on a listed structure and a pivotal part of Stirling's transport system, an in depth assessment and plan will be drawn up to tackle this major development.  There is no timeline for works to be started as yet, thought though it is expected to last between 6 and 9 months.

As a neighbouring community we will be consulted on these plans.

    School Playground Mis-use

    June '20

There has been concern for some time that the nature playground in Riverside Primary School was being misused with dogs being allowed to foul without being cleaned up.

We raised this with the school and the Nature playground will be locked and public use will no longer be allowed.  New signage will be put in place.

It may not be ideal to lock it but we are so fortunate in Riverside to have many other lovely green spaces, and although the children love the nature playground, when it is misused it stops it being safe and could spoil it for the children's return.

    Giant Hogweed

    Summer

There is currently some giant hogweed growing near paths and in the grass around Riverside.  We have logged this with Stirling Council but please be aware that the sap from this plant is toxic and can burn you and your pets, so please take care.

If you sustain a burn from giant hogweed wash area in cold water and keep away from the sun for 48 hours.  For further advice please call Nhs 24 on 111.

If your pet sustains a burn from giant hogweed clean the area with cold water, cover the affected area and keep out of the sun for 48 hours.  For further advice, contact your vet.
