Wheelchair Access Crosswalk

Accessibility

Welcome to Riverside Community Council's newest project - the nurturing and regeneration of the Old Harbour Woods.
Organised by local residents and supported by Stirling Council we would like to invite you to join us in enhancing this local beauty spot.  Please get in touch if you'd like more information.

Welcome to Riverside Community Council's Accessibility sub-group. The Accessibility sub-group focuses, well, on accessibility in the Riverside area and looking at ensuring that our great area can be enjoyed by all.

Accessibility is something that is so important and yet seems, all too often, not to be appreciated or is misunderstood by many people. Riverside Community Council has always strived to highlight areas in Riverside which need to be looked into but, sadly, there are still many areas which need to be addressed.

My name is Gillian Armstrong and, firstly, I want to commend the great work done in this area by my predecessor, who, sadly, passed away last year but, working with Riverside Community Council, made great strides in identifying many areas of challenge (many of which still need to be addressed). Secondly, as someone who has experienced mobility issues, I am only too well aware of the challenges of some of the pavements and crossings within Riverside. Having no specific accessibility qualifications, I have my own personal experience and, combined with my sincere care for other people, in my new role as Associate Member for Accessibility I vow to do all within my power to address areas in Riverside that provide challenges for many (e.g. blind people, people pushing buggies and people on the autistic spectrum, just to highlight a few).

For example, often I find myself moving bins to the side of the pavement on bin collections days when they are sometimes left in the middle of the pavement, presenting a real obstacle and challenge for wheelchair users - this is something that we can all do, keeping in mind our whole community.

Please feel free to reach out to me via Riverside Community Council (contact details below) to let me know about any areas of concern for you. Additionally, you can also contact Stirling Council or FixMyStreet (links to both can be found on the Resources & Links page of this site - menu at the top pf the page).

Millar Place Crossing (Feb 2025)

Below are before and after photos of the crossing at Millar Place (near the shops). FixMyStreet was contacted about this and in less than a month, action was taken.

So, it is definitely worthwhile submitting requests to FixMyStreet. You'll find a link to FixMyStreet on the Resources & Links page.
