About the event
Himalayan balsam is an invasive species that shades out other vegetation and has unfortunately become established along parts of the River Forth. Thankfully balsam is easily pulled out and although it is very effective at dispersing seeds, we plan to remove it before it can flower and set seed. Â
We are looking for volunteers to join our balsam bashing efforts on Saturday 12th June from 10.00-4.00pm. Drop in throughout the day. Gloves provided, but please bring your own gardening/work gloves if you have a pair. We will be working in a covid secure manner around the public footpath, access from Shore Rd, Riverside,  through the pillars. Please check in with stewards in hi viz jackets for a briefing before starting work.   This section of the river is not fenced, please stay on the path until you have checked in. Â
In case you see it before you are briefed,  there is also the invasive plant Giant Hogweed growing in the area. Please do not touch it!!
