About the event
Where? Old Harbour Woods are behind Riverside Quay and stretch along to the back of the Premier Inn. The entrance is through the pillars on Shore Road What will we be doing? This is the second session removing Himalayan balsam from the woods. It is shallow rooted and easy to pull up by hand. Himalayan balsam is an invasive species that shades out other vegetation. It has, unfortunately, become established in the woods and is shading out large areas of more diverse plant life.  We plan to remove it before it can set seed.  Why? TreeLink is discussing with Stirling Council the possibility of managing Old Harbour Woods as a community demonstration and meeting site. Activities are likely to involve removing invasive species, coppicing, tree planting and path work, as well as events to help connect people to woodlands. When? We are looking for volunteers to join our second 'balsam bashing' efforts on Saturday 10th July from 10.00 - 4.00pm. Drop in throughout the day. What to bring? Gloves will be provided, but please bring your own gardening/work gloves if you have a pair. We will be working in a covid secure manner near the public footpath.  Please check in with the stewards in hi viz jackets for a briefing before starting work. We will not be working on the river side of the path.
Please forward this message to any interested groups or inviduals.
